Sean Cardwell’s unwavering commitment to community engagement spans over 15 years, exemplifying a dedicated advocate for progress. In 2006, he and his family embraced Hamden as their new home, nurturing two children within its vibrant embrace. Hailing from Danville, Va., the small-town sense of Hamden felt both familiar and comforting. As a Council member, Sean’s goal is to approach every item with a pragmatic view as he represents the needs and wants of the 1st District, specifically, and the town, overall.
Currently serving as the Chair of the Hamden Human Rights and Relations Commission, Sean is committed to promote leadership and teamwork while fighting for diversity, equity, and inclusion amongst all citizens of Hamden.
As a youth advocate, Sean coached girls’ basketball with the Hamden Regional Youth Basketball League for 11 years and continuously works with the non-profit organization, Fixing Fathers, Inc.
In the professional realm, Sean has flourished as a seasoned civil engineer within a municipality for over 15 years. His daily pursuit involves navigating challenges and crafting solutions within stringent budgets, an appropriate training ground for the pivotal decisions faced by council members. With a portfolio as a deft project manager, Sean has gained experience and a skill set in working with various community members as well as elected officials to complete projects efficiently and economically.
Sean blends disparate community voices and elected officials, orchestrating seamless and cost-effective project completions. His educational foundation is grounded in his prideful alma mater, North Carolina A&T State University, for which he finds great pride being an active alumnus. Fueled by an enduring passion for public service, Sean Cardwell radiates enthusiasm for Hamden’s trajectory, propelled by his steadfast belief in holistic advancement. His priorities remain steadfast: fostering exceptional education, nurturing financial literacy, nurturing economic development, and fortifying infrastructure in all corners of the town.
